SEL at Qutb Festival Delhi |
Hi! Saw you guys in concert (my first time ever) at the Qutb Festival last evening. And I must say I was completely and utterly blown away! Shankar showed why he is one of the best singers in the country today. I understand that singing in concerts is a totally different ballgame as compared to the studio sessions. And he had all his notes in place. Ehsaan and Loy. I must admit that even though I had been a fan of their compositions before, and though I knew that they were fantastic musicians, I had not quite realised, until last night, just how fantastic. :) You are a mean mean shredder Ehsaan! :D Shine on, you guys! Would love to see you again sometime soon. PS: Chandresh, the guitarist with you - is he Chandresh Kudwa? Ex-Freedom? | 02 Oct 2006 08:55 |

qutub fest |
I'm still reeling under the SEL fever. I attended the awesome show at delhi's qutub fest recently. Though one usually talks about lead singers during shows (in India at least), my eyes (okay! this is a major gush fest) didn't leave Ehsaan on stage for one second. And here's my verdict: Ehsaan makes love to his guitar on stage. He was totally engrossed in his music, completely lost in the sound of his guitar. Anyway, the entire show was a major hit and Delhiites couldn't have asked for a better weekend evening. Shankar's attempts to get people to sit down fell on deaf ears as everyone hit the dance floor (made from planks of wood that I'm sure was broken by the end of the two-and-a-half hour show). A note about Mahalakshmi (I hope I've got the spelling right?). She is so incredibly talented that everytime I was sure a note was too high in terms of scale, she proved me wrong. She hit every note so flawlessly and effortlessly that I admired her and felt jealous of her at the same time. Raman was incredible too giving one of the best renditions of Dil se that i've ever heard. Then there was an unplugged segment in the show. Come to think of it, it is a risky segment especially as it features softer, slower tracks and for a live fusion/ rock show where a majority of audiences are waiting to groove to faster tracks, sometimes it may not be the best thing. But SEL pulled it off so well (Ehsaan's solo that builds up to Agar main kahoon from Lakshya was mesmerising) that there was no way that audiences could complain. In a majority of live shows that I've seen, musicians tend to go off key, but are forgiven precisely because the aim is to get audiences to the dance floor and help them "connect" with the music band. In SEL's case, no note went off key, audiences connected so well and the musicians managed to display a range of their songs flawlessly. One really can't go on describing a good show. You have to watch and hear SEL to really believe what these guys do on stage. They create magic. Sheer magic... | 03 Oct 2006 06:44 |
